A Personal Welcome to Good Friday & Easter

As the pastor of Oceanside United Reformed Church, I personally welcome you to our Good Friday & Easter Sunday services.

These days are when Christians celebrate one of the greatest mysteries: God-in-flesh man in Jesus Christ.

He came and dwelt with us on earth, so that through his death and resurrection we might dwell with him forever through the forgiveness of our sins.

These are occasions worth celebrating, and I invite you to celebrate with us.

Haven’t been to church in a while? It’s all good; we’ve been there. Check out our What to Expect to get reacquainted.

What is Good Friday & Easter About?

I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3–4, ESV)

Good Friday and Easter are about God’s Son who became human as Jesus Christ giving himself in sacrifice for the sins of the world and rising again to give new life.

God the Father created the world through his Son. When the world fell into darkness on account of human sin, he sent that same Son to redeem the world.

  • By the power of the Holy Spirit, he was born to a woman named Mary, 2000 years ago.

  • He lived a perfect life—the life we have not lived on account of our sins.

  • He suffered the consequences of sin for us through his death in our place.

  • He arose victoriously from the dead to give us eternal life and freedom from sin’s power.

All who believe in Jesus have eternal life. We share in the benefits of his righteous life and death because he shared with us in the consequences of our sin.

Jesus—he’s gospel or good news we celebrate at Good Friday and Easter.
