CHRISTMAS EVE FESTIVAL OF LESSONS & CAROLS
Wednesday, Dec 24th @ 6:30pm
Receive God’s greatest gift this Christmas Eve
You are invited to join us at OURC this Christmas Eve to hear the story of the loving purposes of God from the first days of human disobedience to the glorious Redemption brought us by the Holy Child—Jesus—in heart and mind to go even to Bethlehem and see the Babe lying in a manger, and to make our Chapel glad with our carols of praise. Jesus is the greatest gift at Christmas.
As a token of our gratitude to Christ giving himself for us, when you personally join us, we’d like give you a free gift of Pastor Danny’s book, God With Us: Knowing the Mystery of Who Jesus Is.
A Personal Welcome to Christmas Eve
As the pastor of Oceanside United Reformed Church, I personally welcome you to our Christmas Eve service.
Christmas is when Christians celebrate one of the greatest mysteries: God becoming man in Jesus Christ.
He came and dwelt with us on earth, so that we might dwell with him forever through the forgiveness of our sins.
That is an occasion worth celebrating, and I invite you to celebrate with us.
Haven’t been to church in a while? It’s all good; we’ve been there. Check out our What to Expect to get reacquainted.
Rev. Dr. Danny Hyde, Pastor
What is Christmas About?
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14, ESV)
Christmas is about the eternal Word of God or God’s Son, becoming human for our salvation.
God the Father created the world through his Son. When the world fell into darkness on account of human sin, he sent that same Son to redeem the world. By the power of the Holy Spirit, he was born to a woman named Mary, 2000 years ago.
He lived a perfect life—the life we have not lived on account of our sins. Yet, he suffered the consequences of sin through his death. That suffering was in our place.
All who believe in him have eternal life. We share in the benefits of his righteous life and death because he shared with us in the consequences of our sin.
That’s the message we celebrate at Christmas.
