Become a Christian
To become a Christian is to enter into a true, saving relationship with the God who made you. This means coming to the realization that everything has meaning and purpose. Like a story, the world and your part in it has a beginning, middle, and end. Creation exists because of God. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1). Yet, something’s wrong. The world as we know it can’t be the world God intended. The reason is our human rebellion. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). Because we fall short of God’s purpose for our lives—glorifying him—he’s provided redemption. “Redemption” comes from an ancient word that was used of a slave receiving freedom. The Bible uses it in a spiritual way to speak of being freed from the slavery of sin. Jesus said, “everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin” (John 8:34); but, “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). We are freed from our sins “through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith” (Rom. 3:24–25). Jesus is our Redeemer and redemption (see “Who is Jesus?”). How? His blood, meaning, his death, was the sacrifice of “propitiation” that pays the debt we owe to get out of slavery and makes satisfaction for the sins we’ve committed. The God who created, against whom we’ve rebelled, yet in love provided redemption from sin is the same God who will bring all things to consummation in the end. God’s “purpose” for all things was “set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth” (Eph. 1:9–10). The God who creates and redeems will also be the One who consummates all things in the end: “For from him and through him and to him are all things” (Rom. 11:36).
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth…I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband…I heard a loud voice…saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away…Behold, I am making all things new” (Rev. 21:1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
This is what God has done to bring you back into a true, saving relationship with him. He loves you that much! “God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
Believe in Jesus today. Come back to your Creator. Find redemption in the place of your rebellion.
Pray to him now and ask for forgiveness: “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Luke 18:38) “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom. 10:9).
