Wordpress is quite simply the most reliable, most fully featured (it has buit-in stats, which is VERY nice), most versatile blogging platform. And it shows in the number of people who use it. Wordpress has far more people using it than any other platform. Make sure you research the difference between a wordpress.com blog and a wordpress.org blog. Mine is a com blog, which means that you cannot use any java script. I don't think that would be a problem for you, as I haven't seen any java script in what you are doing. The only reason to use an org blog is if you have a really fast computer (org blogs make your computer the server: com blogs make wordpress the server. The latter is far better for higher traffic blogs like yours), and want to mess with the code. If, as I suspect, you are really only interested in writing, then com is the way to go. Absolutely, go for it.

Andrew Compton comments on Should the HB Move to WordPress? I miss the look of squarespace, I miss the way I was able to format pages, I miss the flexibility of how to post graphics, and I miss that I could have two different blogs in one (i.e., my "my life" and theology blogs were both housed at the same place whereas now I need to have two separate blogs).

Wordpress works fine though. As for transferring, I was able to transfer all my posts over. You can backup your squarespace blog, then either download the squarespace file and upload it back to wordpress, or else wordpress will access your squarespace files online and transfer the posts automatically. It kept all the links in place and even kept all the key words, though it did not transfer the pictures over. I didn't have quite as many posts as I believe you will, so I just went back and manually deleted the empty spaces out of the posts, or else I went back and re-added the pics if they were important enough.

CT comments on Should the HB Move to WordPress? Wordpress is light years ahead of the competition. Strike that. There is no competition. Wordpress is HD TV; all the others are flying kites in an electrical storm. And if money is an issue, wordpress.com is free. But if you drop $25 on a domain name and another $100 for a server (ipower.com, it offers wordpress as a perk and it has VDeck, the most advanced server platform out there), you can design the mother of all blogs.

But whether you want a mother site or not, you’re blog’s name is too creative to not have its own domain. Besides, the words “Check out the Heidelblog; it’s a dannyhyde.squarespace.com” don’t make sense.

Therefore, you should enter the digital age and leave the Flintstones behind.

Yabba dabba doo!

CT

Bob Mattes comments on Should the HB Move to WordPress? When I saw that Michelle Malkin was moving her blog to WordPress software, I took notice. Her site gets a huge amount of traffic and I've never noticed a problem with her site's responsiveness. I have talked software with other bloggers since the summer and most also think highly of WordPress.

I have had no problems with WordPress and find it easy to use. There's a difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com. I use the latter which is hosted on the WordPress.com server. I believe that the .org version runs on your own server and has more features that the .com version. You can go to both websites and check out the relative features.

Migrating your old posts over may be an issue. You could always leave this site up for reference/history and just start over on a new site. WordPress uses standard HTML code for the posts and comments, so there may be a way to migrate over if SquareSpace does the same.

Hope this helps.

Bob

tommy comments on Should the HB Move to WordPress? I am not sure of how much traffic comes to your site, but high volume could be an issue. On the other hand, it would seem that Lane Keister's blog, which is WP, gets a pile of traffic, and I have never had any trouble reading it due to slowness, so perhaps that is a definite option for you.

The WordPress software is first rate. I have been using WP for a while now (I host the install on my own domain rather than at WordPress), and I must say that it is very nice. I had moved over to WP from Blogger, so the change was quite an improvement at the time (though I think Blogger may be much improved since then).

HTH

Sincerely,
R Somers

PRCalDude comments on Can I Have Assurance?

<i>Religious Affections is not my favorite book, but it's an important historical work.
