Before learning this history of interpretations that you present in your book, and that I'd previously heard Dr. Clark explain on the Heidelcast, I simply assumed it probably had something to do with being a synonym for Christ's burial, as you said one church father explained it. This assumption I got from my background in the KJV-Only movement. One of their criticisms of modern versions is that the word "hell" is traded in for "the grave" in many verses. On this side of that line of thinking, it wasn't hard for me to see what you and Dr. Clark both seem to conclude is probably the most basic, or original, meaning of the clause.

Looking forward to reading In Defense of the Descent. But I'm afraid it's going to have to take a number for now.

Danny Hyde comments on With Arms Wide Open: An Interview About Welcome to a Reformed Church

Come check out the OURC if and when you move down. I still have friends from the broader evangelical world who will, out of spite for Calvin ask me, "so, how many points are you?" I can give them the Canons of ,Dort, but they are usually suspicious of "old writing", so this is helpful. One recommendation however, maybe the book cover could show feet wearing sandals instead of dress shoes.
( just kidding).
As an aside, I also have been curious about the congregation at Oceanside as we might be moving that direction in a few months, but sadly there is no information or photos about the congregational life there. There are links to the blogs of both pastors, there are links to other churchs and blogs, there are ads for new books but there is nothing about the communal life of that local visible church. Maybe, it would be helpful if someone wrote a book about the historical community of the covenantal family of believers. Just a thought;)

comments on Church Planting Principles in the Book of Acts

... :)

comments on Church Planting Principles in the Book of Acts

, ... :)

danny hyde comments on Dutch Reformed Translation Society—Update 11

Hi Andrew,

I haven't heard anything since the last update but I will inquire.
