Blast from the Past
Back in 2002 our church was "reviewed" in the San Diego Weekly Reader. This last past Lord's Day I dredged this up from the files to show some of our new members as we had lunch together.
It is interesting how this Jewish gentleman understood my sermon as there is quite a bit of journalistic license with what I said (just checked the manuscript).
Anyways, enjoy a laugh!

Wednesday Study in Theology—Tonight
Tonight is the next meeting of the Wednesday Study in Theology of the Oceanside United Reformed Church. We meet at 7pm for Evening Prayer and begin our study and discussion at 7:30pm at the Chapel.
Tonight our topic is the doctrine of the "Perseverance of the Saints." A handout will be given to all in attendance. As well, here are a few excellent resources on this topic that you can read for free, online:
The 19th century Evangelical Anglican minister, J. C. Ryle's, Never Perish.
The 17th century Dutch Reformed theologian, Herman Witsius, wrote "Of Conservation," in his massive work, The Economy of the Covenants Between God and Man.
Michael Horton wrote "A Classical Calvinist View" of perseverance in Four Views on Eternal Security (Zondervan, 2002).
Forthcoming Article—Preaching in the Heidelberg Catechism
I just received the typeset version of a forthcoming article for one final proof-read today. The article is entitled, "The Principle and Practice of Preaching in the Heidelberg Catechism." The place of publication is the Puritan Reformed Journal, which is set to publish its inaugural issue in mid-November. The PRJ is edited by Dr. Joel Beeke, my ThM advisor at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI. I'll announce more info as the time draws near, but for now, below is the table of contents:

October Issue of Reformation Voice Available
The Heidelberg Reformation Association's e-journal, Reformation Voice, is now available online and free of charge. This month's theme is "Recovering the Reformed Confession" and features an article by our own Dr. R. Scott Clark.
This is a worthy association, of which Dr. Clark and I belong as members, and which seeks to reinvigorate congregations with historic Reformed roots (e.g., CCCC, UCC) through the Heidelberg Catechism.
Have a look!
